Bucks County consists of 608 square miles of diverse landscapes. While there are major highways
that run through a portion of the county, the majority of our routes are best characterized as
single lane, winding country roads. Visitors are often surprised by the time it takes to travel
short distances. To make your experience visiting Bucks County more enjoyable, we have divided
the county into three regions. All of the listings within this site are defined by the region in
which they are located. Each region offers a variety of activities for outdoor recreation, the arts,
history, shopping, and more. If you find that most of the things you want to see and do during your
visit are in a particular region, then you might want to find lodging within that region. If your
itinerary includes attractions across all regions, then you should select the lodging offering the
amenities that will make your stay most comfortable and then enjoy your scenic drive across our beautiful
countryside. No matter where you stay, you’ll have easy access to New Hope, Doylestown, and most all of
our key attractions
Lake Region
The upper part of the county is most identified by its picturesque countryside
boasting three lakes and winding roads dotted with covered bridges. The dominating
feature is Lake Nockamixon, which is 1,450 acres within a 5,283-acre park. Visitors
who stay in this region often come to enjoy the outdoors and the rustic environment.
When looking at the Bucks County Map, you will see that the Lake Region is made up of
the northern section of the county from Ferry Road/Point Pleasant Pike and north.
Cultural Region
The central part of our county is most well known for the attractions in and around Doylestown
and New Hope, which exude arts and culture. Doylestown has become a major museum town, offering
the renowned James A. Michener Art Museum, The Moravian Pottery & Tile Works, Fonthill and the
Mercer Museum. New Hope has a long history as an artist colony and mecca for creative people.
When looking at the Bucks County Map, you will see that the Cultural Region is made up of the
central section of the county between Ferry Road/Point Pleasant Pike and Second Street Pike
(Rte. 232) and Wrightstown Road.
Heritage Region
Although this part of the county has evolved more than the other two regions, it is where
William Penn founded Bucks County. This heritage is preserved in the many historic sites
along the Delaware River including Pennsbury Manor and the Mansions along the Delaware,
Historic Fallsington, The Margaret R. Grundy Museum and Washington Crossing Historic Park,
where on Christmas night 1776, George Washington and the Continental army crossed the icy
Delaware River. Additionally, visitors will find the historic towns of Morrisville and Yardley
here. When looking at the Bucks County Map, you will see that the Heritage Region is made up of
the southern section of the county from Second Street Pike (Rte. 232) and Wrightstown Road and
south.
